Wide Awake by Shelly Crane

A girl.

A coma.

A life she can't remember.

When Emma Walker wakes up in the hospital with no knowledge of how she got there, she learns that she's been in a coma for six months. Strangers show up and claim to be her parents, but she can't remember them. She can't remember anyone. Not her friends, not even her boyfriend. Even though she can't remember, everyone wants her to just pick up where she left off, but what she learns about the 'old her' makes her start to wish she'd never woken up. Her boyfriend breaks up with the new girl he's dating to be with her, her parents want her to start planning for college, her friends want their leader back, and her physical therapist with the hazel eyes keeps his distance to save his position at the hospital.
Will she ever feel like she recognizes the girl in the mirror?

I was really looking forward to this book from Shelly Crane.  The synopsis was intriguing and all I could think was...Hmmm...how is this story going to play out??
Well, last week, I opened up my email and I about fell out in the floor.  There was an email with an ARC of Wide Awake.  I was so giddy that it was finally here and I was going to be able to sink in to the pages to find out what this compelling tale is all about.
So, I sat down, opened it up on the ipad and within 5 hours I finished and was literally BLOWN AWAY!!
I am always amazed at how authors, that I know are brilliantly talented, can keep me on the edge of my seat, so engrossed throughout the whole story.  Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE this feeling.  I love being enthralled to the point that all there is in the world is you and the book you are reading.  And, Wide Awake was just that for me.
When we meet Emma, she has just woken up from her coma and immediately we find out that she has no memory of herself or her life.  We get to experience her journey in the first 40% of the book going from barely being able to move to walking on her own again.  Watching her struggle with what people want her to be and her discovering her new self.  Plus, meeting Mason, the physical therapist that has made a connection with her and causing her to question so many things being thrown at her. And, as I have now brought up Mason...*sighs*...what a guy!! Even though he has his own demons to contend with, he has such a pure soul, genuine, compassionate, with a heart of gold.  I just loved the moments with Mason.  *heart fluttering*
Anyway, there are so many details to this story that if I just tell one, I feel like I will need to tell more.  And of course, I do not want to do that.  You need to discover this story all on your own.  So I am now going to wrap this up....
Wide Awake is a tale that will immediately draw you in, emotionally entrap you, and leave you gasping with OMGs at the captivating twists found in the pages of this book.  Highly recommend you get your copy today!!
